Best HDMI Cables: Accell
Certified HDMI cables without the hype
Updated May 31, 2009 Set Alert
We don't know if Accell makes the "best" HDMI cables, but they are a reputable company that makes truly certified HDMI cables that perform at the bandwidth/length combinations they claim.
Many purveyors of HDMI cables appear to gain certification for short cables and then claim similar performance for longer cables which in reality have never been certified. This practice appears widespread. One company we found was claiming certified 10.2 Gbps operation at 50' length (which is little more than a wild fantasy). Accell doesn't play these games, and clearly states which lengths are capable of which speeds.
You can easily find cheaper HDMI cables (and they may be adequate for your needs, especially for 6' or shorter lengths) but if you are looking for top quality at a reasonable price, Accell is hard to beat.
Our top picks are:
- For lengths up to 21', the Accell ProUltra 1.3 HDMI Cable is world-class, and certified for speeds up to 10.2 Gbps. No device we are aware of currently requires this much bandwidth, but if you are the type of person who likes "overkill" then this cable is for you. All lengths are fully certified for 10.2 Gbps bandwidth.
- For longer cables, the Accell UltraRun 1.3 HDMI Cable is the highest performing HDMI cable available. It is available in 33' to 82' lengths. All lengths are fully certified for 6.75 Gbps bandwidth.
Note that 6.75 Gbps HDMI cables are sometimes referred to as "225MHz" cables or "HDMI 1.3 Category 2 High-Speed compatible" cables; these names all refer to the same standard. A 6.75 Gbps HDMI cable is fast enough to support 1080p/60Hz with 12 bit Deep Color and 8 channels of 24/192 lossless audio simultaneously. A 10.2 Gbps HDMI cable, sometimes referred to as a "340MHz" cable, provides additional bandwidth for future needs.
